Shepway Cycle Forum meet parliamentary contenders

Tuesday, June 15th, 2010

Members of  Shepway Cycle Forum had encouraging meetings with Conservative candidate Damian Collins and Lib/Dem candidate Lynne Beaumont in the run up to the General Election. Both pledged support for the forum, particularly in the protracted ongoing consultations with Kent Highway Services over a cycling strategy for Shepway.

With Damian Collins now installed as the new MP for Folkestone and Hythe, the forum looks forward to some heavyweight political clout in the campaign to raise the profile and facilities for cycling in Shepway. Meanwhile, Lynne Beaumont, who took a spin on bike on Sandgate seafront after her meeting, proved helpful in identifying local politicians with cycling sympathies.

The venue for both meetings was kindly supplied by the newly opened cycle and coffee shop The Hub in Sandgate High Street.

Tuesday, April 27th, 2010

The Spokes stall enjoyed a busy Saturday in Canterbury city centre. A wide selection of cycling and walking leaflets were available for free and much advice was given on good places to cycle and buying bikes. The return of the Big Wheel of Kent cycle ride prove very popular.

Don’t worry if you managed to miss us. Next Saturday we’ll be in Faversham town centre. On bank holiday Monday we’ll have a stand at the Winding Pond rest area, halfway along the Crab & Winkle Way, as part of the 180th anniversary celebrations of the opening the railway that used to ran along the path. Then on Saturday May 8th we’ll be in Folkestone town centre together with Shepway Cycle Forum, followed by Ashford’s Victoria Park together with Ashford Cycling & Walking Forum on the 9th of May for the Pilgrims Hospice charity cycle rides. The following weekend we return to Canterbury for the whole weekend as part of Canterbury Climate Fair. A full list of the events we’re attending can be found on our events page.
